This morning we are docked in the pretty little town of Viviers.
Paul took the morning tour that included a visit to a truffle “farm” where they had a demonstration of the skills of the truffle dogs. Truffles can’t be cultivated, they grow wild on the roots of oak trees. The harvesters used to use pigs to find the truffles but the pigs liked to eat them. So now they use specially trained dogs. This one was pretty cute.
This is what the truffles look like.
From there the tour went to the hilltop town of Grignan…another pretty little town with small churches, windy streets and sidewalk cafes.
This town also had a castle on the top…
with nice views of the surrounding countryside.
They were back by lunch time and the boat cast off for an afternoon of cruising on the Rhone.
In the afternoon they had an ice cream party. It was supposed to be on the sundeck but they moved it to the Lounge. Ice cream was great.
And we hit a few locks along the way. We will go through 13 locks on this trip.
